They say the pen is mightier than the sword.

Indeed, words carry within themselves a special power.

And when these words are given life by an amazing orator, they have the power to change the world.

Here, I have listed 4 of the most moving and motivating speeches that I have seen.

Get ready to get motivated!

Steve Job’s 2005 Stanford Commencement Address

On June 12, 2005, Steve Jobs, co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple Inc., delivered what would go down as one of the greatest motivational speeches of all time at Stanford University’s Commencement Address . In that speech, he shared with all those present three stories from his life. The first of which was about connecting the dots; The second story was about love and loss; The final story was about death. These 3 stories from his eventful life teaches us one lesson: If you love something, pursue it. You can never truly know where you decisions will bring you in the future,  but you have to remember that you have nothing to lose and just follow your intuition, believing that one day, everything will work out.  Remember, stay hungry, stay foolish!

Never Give Up by Eric Thomas

Eric Thomas, or better known as ET, is one of my favorite motivational speakers. His high-energy, dynamic and inspiring messages are further amplified by his booming, powerful voice. Formerly a homeless high school dropout from Detroit, he is now a successful CEO and one of the most sought after motivational speakers in the USA. I personally find his speeches very moving and they will definitely strike a chord with many people across all social classes. You should definitely check him out, especially if you love those high-energy timeout pep talks during sport games! NEVER GIVE UP!

It Ain’t About How Hard You Get Hit by Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone)

This speech is rather short compared to the above two and it’s from a movie, but it’s message is equally as powerful. I’m sure you have heard of the saying ‘When life gives you lemons’. Well, let’s be honest, life doesn’t just give you lemons does it? Life puts obstacles in your way. It is the headwind that will slow you down as you move forward. Life is a bully that will beat you up and once you are down, it will make sure stay there. That’s life. Often, we give up after life gives us a beating, we lie on the ground, defeated, licking our wounds. But you have to remember,  there is always going to be adversity in our lives. We cannot foresee or change what life will put in our way, but what we can do is change is our attitude. Stop blaming others and pointing fingers, be brave and move forward. In the words of Rocky, we “gotta be willing to take the hits”.

Al Pacino’s Inspirational Speech from Any Given Sunday

Oscar Award winner Al Pacino delivers one of the most amazing motivational speech I have heard in the movie “Any Given Sunday”. This speech, where Al Pacino’s character, Damato attempts to motivate his team, The Miami Sharks, carries an important message: Life often takes things from us, be it our dreams or our hopes, but life can only take those things if we let it. No matter the odds, no matter how bleak the situation might seem, we still have a choice, to either “stay here, get the shit kicked out of us” or “fight our way back into the light“. Life is a game of inches and success often await those who fight for that inch. An inch may not mean much, but we still have to fight, to claw with our fingernails for that inch, because when we add up all those inches, it’s gonna make the difference between winning or losing. Have your eyes on your goal, never falter and carry on. Success will be yours one day!

I sincerely hope that after listening to the 4 speeches above, your life has been impacted in a positive way, and that you are now that little bit braver in pursuing your dreams. Remember, the greatest enemy you will face on your journey to success is yourself! Good luck in any endeavor you are pursuing! 🙂
