As students, we always crave to succeed academically. But let’s face it. We are often distracted by electronic gadgets, social media and so on.
We procrastinate for unknown reasons. Always completing our assignments at the eleventh hour and ending up unsatisfied with the grades we are given. We then regret how lazy we were after getting our results.
And, we always end up blaming one thing: Motivation (or rather, our lack of it).
“I hope I get the motivation to study soon, but… I don’t feel like studying today…”
“I would have definitely aced that exam if I have had the motivation to study.”
“I failed again…I don’t have the motivation to study anymore…It doesn’t even pay off”
1. Success is dependent on effort. – Sophocles
Same goes to acing your examinations. If you want to ace your exam, you got to put in the effort. I know it’s hard to form a habit to study for several hours every day (your effort), that is a little too much to ask for at the start. However, it’s not impossible if we take baby steps and start small. Tell yourself to study for 15 minutes every day, not much, just 15 minutes. Slowly, increase this to 20 minutes, 25 minutes, 30 minutes, you know the drill! Overtime, studying will become a habit and the accumulated effort that we put in will decide our grades.
Instead of only spending time to study, make sure you also spend some time to analyse the past year papers, model answers and perhaps, research the techniques to answer the questions. Study smart and hard.
This motivational quote reminds you that, your results, your grades, are dependent on how much effort you put in. There is no shortcut to success.
2. 80 percent of success is showing up. – Woody Allen
If you want to get extraordinary results academically, show up in every lecture/class. Try your best not to skip any lecture/class, unless of course, you are genius, or you already know everything there is to know about the subject.
It’s not only about showing up in lectures or classes, it also means that you have to attend some extra-curricular activities. There are many lessons you, as a student, can learn from attending these activities. It teaches you valuable life lessons that you will never learn in a classroom environment.
The main idea this success quote is trying to propagate? Show up!
3. In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can. – Nikos Kazantzakis
This quote emphasizes the importance of self-belief. If you can’t even believe in yourself, no one will, not even your lecturers/teachers. You want to obtain good grades? Believe that you can. You have to believe in yourself, there is no other way.
A lack of confidence will lead you to negativity and low self-esteem, making you feel bad. Can you study effectively in a bad mood? No! That is why, believing in yourself is so important in order to ace your exams.
If you have mindset that constantly remind you: “No matter how hard I study, I am still not able to get good grades…” then, all I can say is that’s true. Because, how can you succeed if you can’t even believe in yourself? You will eventually give up studying with that mindset, eventually returning to where you began.
This inspiring quote delivers a message that, if you want to succeed, believe in yourself, despite of all the previous failures you faced.
4. Successful men and women keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit. – Conrad Hilton
It is okay to make mistakes. It is okay to fail. It’s all a natural part of life. But don’t give up, don’t lose hope. That’s not what you should do. Instead you should learn from your mistakes, your failures, and keep moving forward.
Keep in mind that, we should all learn from the mistakes we made in the previous examinations. And don’t repeat the same mistake again. Sometimes, these mistakes are the difference between an “A” and a “B” or a “Pass” and “Fail”. So, learn from your mistakes and move on.
Never quit easily if you want to succeed academically. This motivational quote tell us that, to be successful, we need to keep moving on, despite of all the mistakes we made, or all the failures we faced. Failure is just a stepping stone to success.
5. A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him. – David Brinkley
Do people often discriminate you? Look down on you? Laugh at you for being a slow learner? Say “Thank you” to them. Use all these “bricks” that they throw at you to build your foundation. And, prove them wrong.
Every criticism, feedback, is what makes you stronger. They are the reasons why you should work harder. Remember that song by Kelly Clarkson? “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”
In our lives, we will face haters. But they are not there to stop us from succeeding, they are there to allow us to lay our firm foundation with the bricks they have thrown at us, as mentioned in this inspirational quote.
6. I attribute my success to this – I never gave or took any excuse. – Florence Nightingale
Never ever give an excuse for yourself to not study. That’s what causes failures. Giving yourself excuses will never help you in achieving great results. Instead of finding excuses to procrastinate, plan for your own study schedule.
Most successful people don’t give excuses after failing. They never blame others for their mistakes. They accept the responsibility for their own mistakes.
Never find excuses after facing failure. It won’t help you in improving your results. Instead, find the reasons why you failed and look for the solutions to these reasons.
If you fail to achieve your targeted grades, is it because you didn’t study hard enough or is it because there were too many careless mistakes in the examinations? How can you counter these problems? This is what you should be doing, looking for solutions and ways to improve, not giving excuses like, “I’m just not well prepared…”
From now on, do as was mentioned in Florence Nightingale’s quote, never give or accept any excuses.
7. Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. – Winston Churchill
Success is not final, which means that success in the past doesn’t guarantee success in the future. The same goes to failure, failing in the past doesn’t mean that you will fail in the future.
Bill Gates once said that:
“Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.”
Even if you succeed in your past, it doesn’t mean that you can slack off and stop improving. Don’t be arrogant after achieving success.
“Remember that failure is an event, not a person.”
– Zig Ziglar
Failure is just an event which helps you grow and mature as a human being. Failure doesn’t define you. Failure is not fatal. The key to scoring good grades? As mentioned in the last past of the quote: the courage to continue. The courage to get up after falling again and again. That is what counts and matters.
8. Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom. – George S. Patton
This quote is inspiring, especially for those who fail miserably in their previous exams. Previous means that which has become the past. Since it has become the past, there is nothing we can do to change it. But we can improve; we can bounce back from our failures!
Failed? No problem. Learn from the experience, put in more effort, and ace the subject in the next exam. That’s success. This inspirational quote is really suitable for students. We often feel like giving up after we fail in a subject. But this quote reminds us that, it’s not the end of the road. The real success is how high we bounce back, when we hit the bottom.
9. Success is falling nine times and getting up ten. – Jon Bon Jovi
Fail, fail, fail and fail. But that is not the end. As mentioned above, failure is not fatal. Never let failure defeat you. No matter how many times you fail, never give up. Remember, failure is just life giving you a test, a test of your determination and perseverance. Get back up, because success is all about getting up after being defeated again and again.
The same lesson applies to school or college. Failed this time? Don’t sweat about it. Get back up and tell yourself, “I’m gonna pass the next time!!” and immediately start taking action. Start studying and preparing for the next exam and when the time comes, go in knowing that you have done your best!
10. Action is the foundational key to all success. – Pablo Picasso
You have a winning mindset? That’s great. You have the “Never Give Up” spirit? That’s awesome. But without any further action, it won’t take you anywhere. This inspirational success quote emphasize on taking action.
Action is the key to success. No matter how perfect you plan is, without any action, it is still a plan. No matter how well you plan your study schedule, without sticking to it with a high discipline, things won’t work out.
Action speaks louder than words. Keep that in your mind.
WRITE ONE DOWN AND REPEAT IT TO YOURSELF EVERYDAY.
