For the past few months, I have been focusing so much on tracking how productive I am every single day. Then one day, I felt like I was burnt out. I started to question myself, “Why do I need to work so hard?” What is the purpose of doing so?

Does this seem familiar to you? It’s like all of a sudden, you’ve lost your direction. You start doubting if is it worth it to work so hard. If it’s happened to you, it’s time to stop everything you’re doing now and reflect. It’s time to stop worrying about your productivity for the next few days.

Find the reason behind it

Find out why you are experiencing burnout. Find out why you feel this way. Find out the root of all causes.

Why exactly am I so particular about how productive I am? Come to think of it, the reason is probably that I think I’m not good enough. That’s the primary reason why I squeeze out every single second I have to improve myself. I wanted to utilize every second I have.

There is nothing wrong about wanting to improve ourselves. But, that’s not how you should do it. If you’re so obsessed about how productive you are every day, you’ll burn yourself out eventually.

Self-reflection

If you have ever found yourself burnt out, it’s time to step back and reconsider everything. Doing things efficiently is useless if you’re doing the wrong things.

Are you on the right path? Or have you just overworked yourself?

You can ask yourself some questions like:

“Am I doing the right thing? Do I really enjoy doing it?”

“Or I’m just following what others are doing?”

“Was I ever influenced by the social environment?

“Have I been overworking myself?”

“Is there something missing? What is missing?”

Ask yourself questions that counter your previous doing. Challenge your own thoughts and view things from a broader perspective. Being productive is useless if you’re not genuinely enjoying yourself.

Counterattack

Don’t just stop there after you have figured out the ‘why’. Tackle the problem. If you are on the wrong path, steer yourself to the right one and keep moving. If you have overworked yourself, take a few days off to enjoy yourself. Spend some quality time with your family, friends, or spouse.

Even after you have found the right direction, it’s necessary to maintain a balance between work and life while pursuing productivity.

It’s perfectly okay to slow down our pace once in a while. Take a closer look at your surroundings and you’ll start noticing all the fun little details that you have missed out while being busy pursuing productivity. Have you noticed how good the weather is today? Have you noticed the little kid that smiled at you recently? Start noticing the tiny details around you, and you’ll find miracles.

Living isn’t just about productivity

In the end, we all have to realize that living isn’t just about being productive or busy. It’s about happiness. If you’re not enjoying what you are doing while you’re grinding, than you’re doing it the wrong way. Life consists of many other interesting things. Instead of thinking how to utilize every second of your life to be more productive, you can also utilize your time to enjoy yourself. Don’t ever lose sight of what really matters the most in your life, enjoyment.

It’s okay to be imperfect.

It’s okay to be unproductive for one day. It’s called a day off.
